On Jan. 20, the Duke Sports Medicine team hosted the 10th Annual Duke Sports Medicine Baseball Symposium. Speakers and guests from around the country gathered to discuss current topics and trends in baseball, sports medicine, and performance; more than 110 physical therapists, athletic trainers, physicians, and students attended.
The symposium covered topics ranging from Clinical Biomechanics, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Indications for Elbow Injuries in the Baseball Athlete, UCL-Reconstruction and Rehabilitation, USA Baseball PitchSmart Guidelines, Physical Development, and Management of Shoulder Injuries.
Our Duke Sports Medicine team was well represented at the symposium. Chris Antonelli presented on the rehabilitation process after elbow PRP procedures, UCL repairs, and UCL reconstruction. John Justyn, one of Duke’s Division 1 Sports PT Fellows, gave a presentation on evidence-based movement assessments and weighted ball considerations. Duke physician colleagues Dr. Brian Lau, Dr. Anthony Ceraulo, Dr. Marc Richard, and Dr. David Ruch shared their time and expertise at the symposium.
In addition to our sports medicine team, Duke head baseball coach Chris Pollard and Major League Baseball veterans Chris Archer and Brad Miller joined the symposium. We look forward to the continued growth of the baseball symposium next year!
