Innovative Spine Lab Focused on Managing for Intraoperative Surgical Complications

This week, a successful Spine Lab was hosted within various Duke Health operating rooms. Duke faculty members Joe Minchew, MDMelissa Erickson, MDBrett Rocos, MD, and guest instructor Chris Dribble, MD, from Wake Forest Med, co-led the experience.

Spine fellows and residents learned strategies for managing intraoperative surgical complications during Spine surgery. With the aid of highly detailed models and faculty instruction from both Duke and Wake Forest, participants were able to learn about and practice dual repair, screw, and hook insertion into a degenerative spine, and alternative modes of managing bleeding, neurological injury, and instrumentation placement.
