Robert T. Tisherman, MD, Joins the Duke Sports Medicine Division

Robert T. Tisherman, MD, has joined the Duke Sports Medicine Division as an assistant professor of Orthopaedic surgery. He received his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and then pursued a sports medicine fellowship at Duke. He is an active member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Q&A with Dr. Tisherman

Q: What brings personal joy? 
A: My greatest joy comes from spending quality time with my wife (Jennie), a pediatric ER physician at Duke, and my son Evan. We love hiking and spending time outdoors. 


Q: What excites you about your new role at Duke?
A: I am excited to join this team, which takes care of the region's incredible high schools and colleges and is part of the research team driving sports medicine forward. 


Q: Where is your hometown:
A: Pittsburgh, PA 

Q: What changes will your specialty see in the next five years?
A: I believe that with the explosion of big data and machine learning models (AI), we will see an evolution of surgical decision-making that can help identify the right surgery for the right patient at the right time and optimize surgical planning and rehabilitation post-operatively.
