Study Results: Feasibility and Validity of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Visual Symptoms and Signs Screen: A Pilot Study

Stroke is a common medical condition for Americans, with almost 800,000 new strokes each year. Kimberly Hreha, EdD, OTR/L, assistant professor in orthopaedic surgery, and additional researchers created a study aimed to develop and implement the screening tool called the “American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine's Visual Symptoms and Signs Screen (V-SASS)” across multiple settings within the United States, report the feasibility of implementing the V-SASS across the different practice settings, and examine the success rate of the V-SASS in identifying the presence of vision impairment in individuals poststroke.

The Visual Symptoms and Signs Screen (V-SASS) identifies vision deficits and facilitates referrals to vision specialists. The study objectives were to determine the feasibility and clinician perspectives of the V-SASS. Learn more.
