Teamwork! Faculty members and Duke Health clinicians Malcolm DeBaun, MD, assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, and Muhammad Abd-El-Barr, MD, PhD, FAANS, associate professor of neurosurgery, successfully helped an elderly patient in a motor vehicle accident.
Dr. DeBaun performed a perc S1 sacroiliac fixation on the patient. Due to lumbopelvic dissociation, the patient underwent a robotic-assisted percutaneous L4-pelvis fixation with the @DukeSpine team, which includes Dr. Abd-El-Barr.
After six months postop, the patient can walk unassisted. Great job!
