Please join me in congratulating Alison P. Toth, MD, on her appointment as the Duke University Health System Surgeon-in-Chief! Dr. Toth was selected for this role following an extensive search process. This position will oversee the entire Duke Heath System operative platform.
Dr. Toth is an integral part of our department, serving as our Executive Vice Chair, a key member of our sports medicine division, and a team physician for sports at Duke and NC Central. Beyond her clinical expertise, she holds several leadership roles, including her contributions to quality, faculty, and resident development, and as a faculty representative on the DUHS board. She has also made significant national contributions, including her recent role as program chair for the AAOS.

On a personal note, I have found her among the most hardworking, selfless, ethical, and compassionate individuals I’ve had the privilege to work with. Her unwavering support for Duke, our department, and me has been invaluable.
I have no doubt Dr. Toth will bring these qualities, along with her skill and vision, to elevate the quality and efficiency of our operative platforms. She is truly the ideal person for this role.
While Alison will step back from some department roles to focus on this new position, she will continue to serve as our Executive Vice Chair Clinical, ensuring her continued impact in our department.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Toth on this well-deserved honor. Her leadership will undoubtedly enhance clinical care in our department, across Duke’s surgical platforms, and for all our patients.
