Anna Miller, MD, FAAOS, FACS, FAOA, vice chair of faculty affairs for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, shared that while her day job is being an orthopaedic trauma surgeon, she is an avid birder and gardener, and loves to read. She delivered "Living a Life as an Ortho Surgeon: Lessons from My Garden," followed by a lively discussion.
Duke Officially Launches Program Focused on Female Athletes
While the Duke Female Athlete Program officially launched this fall, its roots were planted long ago. More than 20 years ago, Duke opened one of the country's first women's sports medicine programs, focusing on rehabilitation and injury prevention in women of all ages. The Duke Female Athlete Program builds on our success and now provides the latest diagnostic tools and treatments to keep female athletes of all ages healthy.

The Duke Orthopaedics team congratulates Madison Celentano, MBA, LAT, ATC, OPE-C, an athletic trainer at Duke Orthopaedics of Apex, for going above and beyond for her patient at the Duke Ortho Apex Clinic who was there for a simple follow-up visit.
In this case, Madison was walking the patient to an X-ray and noticed that the patient’s calf was swollen. She then decided to measure his calves and saw a discrepancy in the size and texture of the patient’s calves.

Celebrating Heather Kelly, RN, BSN–Arringdon Ortho, on the Completion of the Ironman World Championship
Congratulations to Nurse Manager Heather Kelly, RN, BSN, for completing the Ironman World Championships race in Kona, HI, on Oct. 14.
Kelly, who works at the Duke Orthopaedics Arringdon Clinic, qualified for Kona at the Ironman Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, just seven weeks earlier. The Kona event was the inaugural all-women’s world championship and involved 2,500 women.
