Proper statistical analysis of your data can be challenging but is essential for accurately evaluating results and determining outcomes.

Below is an overview of the statistical resources available to assist you.

Protected Analytics Computing Environment (PACE) Statistical Resources

  • Data stored within PACE can be analyzed using various statistical software available on the platform. The most commonly used tools include:

    • Python
    • R (R Studio)
    • Stata
    • JMP
    • SAS
  • Each program has specific licensing requirements and may not be pre-installed in your PACE environment. It is free if you'd like to use any of the above software. You can request access through the following link and by selecting Software.

Requesting Statistical Support

  • While a biostatistician is not required to perform your statistical analysis, it is essential to ensure that your study maintains scientific rigor and your analysis is appropriate.

    • The PI can contact Dr. Chad Cook within the department for specific questions.
  • Research statistical guidance can be requested for the following:

    • Methodology before study commencement
    • Planning statistical analyses
    • Sample size estimation
    • Statistical analysis
    • Manuscript review
  • The Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Methods Core, supported by Duke’s Clinical and Translational Science Award and housed within the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, helps identify appropriate collaborators for statistical support.

    • The BERD request form can be found here.
    • BERD also offers office hours as needed, which can be requested through Office Hours.
  • myRESEARCHpath provides resources for developing a data analysis plan. Starting this process early can help collect the correct data and streamline the study process.

  • Basic statistical support, utilizing undergraduate students, can be requested through the Statistical Consulting Center.

  • Support may be available through the Cancer Institute Biostatistics Shared Resource for cancer-related research.
